The Carter Center/OAS observation mission made its long awaited report tonight, and with characteristic good sense. In a carefully worded statement, Jaramillo said the opposition was unambiguously right in its argumentation against the “reparo” mechanisms proposed by CNE. For about five minutes, Jaramillo sounded like an escualido activist, vindicating one by one each of the points the opposition has been making.

But then, and again showing good sense, they called on the opposition to return to the process despite these misgivings, as the only possible peaceful road out of the impasse.

I think this is a sensible position.
