7,600 public employees have been fired for signing referendum petition
Pablo Castro, executive secretary of the Venezuelan Labor Federation (CTV) and head of the contracts and conflicts department of the labor federation, said some 7,600 government workers have been fired for participating in the signature-gathering drive against President Chavez.
He said 480,000 workers signed the referendum petition and that there is an aggressive campaign of persecution against public employees, which he sees as a characteristic of an antidemocratic government.
He said the situation is a violation of workers’ constitutional rights.

We’ve been able to hang on for 19 years in one of the craziest media landscapes in the world. Now, the difficulty level was raised abruptly with the global pandemic. We’ve seen different media outlets in Venezuela (and abroad) cutting personnel to avoid closing shop. This is something we’re looking to avoid at all costs, and it seems we will. But your collaboration goes a long way in helping us weather the storm.
