A reader sends me a series of ads the opposition MUD is putting out. In them, ordinary Venezuelans speak directly to an over-zealous camera to talk about the kind of National Assembly they want.

The ads seem like they are supposed to be the spontaneous testimony of day-to-day people. But the text is so elaborate, it reads like the canned sound bites of out-of-work actors.

I dunno – does this type of thing work? Maybe I’m not the target audience, but judge for yourselves. I’m embedding the video for the sassy Aminta Contreras, but you can also check out the ads made by her friends Angie, Anyelitz, Jose, and Zoilo. They all say pretty much the same.
