Does the thought of First Lady Combattant Cilia Flores seeding relatives all through the upper echelons of the Venezuelan state render you anxious?
See, that right there is your clue that reporting on it is not to be tolerated.
A few hours before the new, government-friendly Globovision was served its first investigation for making us all antsy by reporting on shortages, they’d run a piece about the fact that Carlos Malpica Flores, the just-appointed National Treasurer, happens to be Cilia Flores’s nipote.
A few hours later and…

The article now rests at the bottom of the Memory Hole.
But its presence there does not allow First Combattant Celia to rest easy. When she is removed from power like her predecessor Madame Mao, (Jian Qing), the Memory Hole coughs up its secrets, probably expressed as “To further the plans of her reactionary Anti-Party Group, she stealthily seeded the peoples’ government with representatives of her feudal family clique.”
The Gangrene of Four
I think the opposition should carry out Twitter campaings, sending messages about this to the international media AND to Chavistas.
… or aren’t the ‘extended [family] members’ of the Chavez, Cabello, Flores clans just really committed public servants — talented technocrats qualified for, and deserving of, high office?
Much like the Aliyev family of Azerbaijan.
Maybe, at least one member of the family is not on the state payroll:

There is something humorous and disturbing about a TV station getting investigated for creating “zozobra”. The term probably has a legal definition in Venezuelan telecom regulations, but isn’t one of the functions of journalism to create zozobra (i.e., intranquilidad) by reporting troubling truths? Or is that only in the normal world and not in our magical kingdom of bizarroland?
“Bad TV station! causing people to get all worked up over things like that! That is not cool. Please only report about Miss Venezuela, la vinotinto and official statements”
“Journalism is printing what someone else does not want printed. Everything else is public relations.”
-George Orwell
as we all know, mejor que “zozobre que fafalte!”
that’s good!
Celia Flores has her sights set high. The example of Christina Kirchner cannot have escaped her.
Did you know she went to China-Canada (and wanted to go to NY) taking with her not only her grand children but also two female friends of hers and her HAIRDRESSER?
Yes, she has a hairdresser. Believe it or not! And that hairdresser travels around the world with the money that should be used to give textbooks to Venezuela’s children or to provide water to Valencia’s public hospital.
Well … I’m sure other first ladies travel with some sort of hairdresser/valet. Even Merkel probably travels with someone who does her makeup or hair. It’s par for the course for female politicians.
Juan, come on: we would expect something for the money. Have you seen Cilia’s greña?
And they usually don’t travel around with their wee friends…at least they give those friends some posts (but that is an issue and it tends to come up in the news sooner than later in Germany)
We should offer a trade – let Cilia have as many hairdressers as she wants as long as she takes her red, muddy paws off the National Treasury!
OT: Maduro has announced the expulsion of three U.S. diplomats from Venezuela for plotting sabotage: http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/09/30/us-venezuela-usa-idUSBRE98T12M20130930
Now as we all know, the U.S. will have to take some sort of tit-for-tat diplomatic measure. Of course, the usual measure is the expulsion from the U.S. of three similarly ranking Venezuelan diplomats. But, in this case, I think that the State Department could be so much more creative. I propose a contest to see who can come up with the best suggestion for the U.S. response to this latest diplomatic temper tantrum from Maduro.
I’ve got it! Let’s keep the Matisse!
The govt is looking for a fight with the US . thats obvious from all the extravagant accusations and claims made during recent weeks of plots , conspiracies , imaginery insults etc allegeded instituted by the US govt agaisnt Maduro and its govt. Why is Maduro so intent on picking a fight with the US ?? 3 reasons : 1.- to distract attention from the many disasters that are befalling its govt in terms of shortages , run away inflation , rising crime , spread of corruption , infrastructure breakdown etc. 2.- to rally its supporters (including any ‘red blooded patriots’ ) agaisnt the imperialist enemies of Venezuelan dignity . 3.- to slowly create a climate of opinion favourable to some drastic action against whats left of Venezuelan democratic institutions , justified by the need to answer the
(cont) the threat of all those converging disasters.
Hi, after reading this awesome post i am as well happy to share my
know-how here with colleagues.
Good day! I know this is kinda off topic however , I’d figured I’d ask.
Would you be interested in trading links or maybe guest writing
a blog article or vice-versa? My blog discusses a lot of the same
subjects as yours and I believe we could greatly benefit from each other.
If you might be interested feel free to shoot me an e-mail.
I look forward to hearing from you! Superb blog by the way!
Normally I don’t learn post on blogs, however I wish to say that this write-up very compelled me to check out and do it!
Your writing taste has been amazed me. Thanks, very great article.
Write more, thats all I have to say. Literally, it seems as though you
relied on the video to make your point. You
obviously know what youre talking about, why waste your intelligence on just posting
videos to your weblog when you could be giving us something informative to read?
Today, I went to the beachfront with my children. I found a sea shell
and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is
completely off topic but I had to tell someone!
