Quico says: After a morning wasted fiddling around with the blog’s software, I’ve now upgraded to one of Google’s new style Blogger templates. It looks pretty much like the old template, but has all kinds of new little features – most of which, alas, make more of a difference to Katy and me than to readers.
Regrettably, I was unable to make the new template get along with the old commenting software, so all the old comments have been flushed down some cyberspatial memory hole. R.I.P.

Oh, I tried Ricardo, but they eat my right-hand column!
It’s ok. Who really goes through months old comments threads anyway? Only cranks and obsessives…

I hope Ricardo is right, and that the old comments can come back…there’s some good stuff in there.
And speaking of comments, while I think I could get used to main page format in time (not yet…), I do NOT like the tiny pop-up window for comments. Given the depth of material that is sometimes posted, it’s a must to be able to make that full-screen.

Agree with others who would like to have access to the old comments, if possible.
FWIW,one complaint about this new software is that the comments cannot be enlarged for the whole page.
OTOH,the “customer is always right” motto implies that the customer is paying something, and most of us are not.

2 comments:
– the new template is not really apt for users with high screen resolutions it seems to me
– Haloscan is much much better for leaving comments than the native blogger.com interface. It’s particularly annoying that you don’t seem able to resize the comments window.
Conclusion: the benefits of the new template may not outweigh the drawbacks.

Boludo, you actually can enlarge it to have it on a whole page: just open the comments link a) in a new tab or b) in a new window.

Actually, it’s not that the old comments are lost as much as they are unlinked.
For example, the comments for the following post
http://caracaschronicles.blogspot.com/2007/07/torres-in-bethlehem.html
are still at
http://www.haloscan.com/comments/barbudo/7552076926768561117/
As for the new interface, I say that whatever helps Quico and Katy the most, the better. Anything that encumbers them less translates to more and better posts for a longer time. 🙂

Oh…it’s you…how disappointing.
I thought there was going to be a Dutch reader 🙂
Just kidding. I think the format is now better but there is something different with the green label where the Avila picture is, isn’t there?

I really hate when you decide to change the outline of your blog. It is like I don’t recognize a familiar face.
The green of the letters looks really Copei and has nothing to do with the olive of the title.
Bring back the old blog.

I disagree. The old blog looked more like an AD poster.
The only thing I do not like are the black stripes on the green label. Perhaps that can change.
We need voting on this.

sire, excellent advice. Right-click solves the problem. Now if Quico (or Ricardo) can solve the old comments problem, I’ll be content. (Though I do agree with Paco in wanting caps back in names – aio just doesn’t seem right!)
Hmmm, Katy seems surprised by the change, but the post implies that it’s better for her…jefe es jefe indeed! 🙂

Quico,
Congrats for the new template. If you allow some visual criticism, I don’t like how the greens on your site combine. Better say, they don’t go together.
Cheers y’all,

Corrected; anyone know anything about
Joe O’Neill, who wrote the
“Brown Man With A Mole”, or the Latin American Working Group?
Any Venezuelans who would like to reply to this front-page essay?
