First, they grabbed la vinotinto; now, el vinotinto

During one of Chavez’s latest cadenas, this happened:

“I don’t always want people to drink alcohol, but when I do, I want them to drink my own brand.”

It’s not just that promotion of alcoholic beverages in radio and TV is illegal (according to article 9 of the current Broadcasting Law) but the fact that Venezuela is leading Latin America in alcohol consumption and we’re the fifth country in the world with the highest number of traffic accidents caused by alcohol. And let’s not start about the fights…

Obviously, this is not the Chavez of five years ago…

BTW, the comandante presidente also wants Venezuelans to stop drinking sodas and drink his own brand of grape juice instead. Good luck with that.

  1. You cannot write a tale as absurd as the whole Chávez saga. I just hope YouTube stays around for a long time cause I’m sure our grandsons won’t believe even 10% of the stories. Without evidence, in the year 2050 we’ll all be spandex-wearing-Oscar-Yaneses. The Chinese curse should be renamed after Venezuela now.
