Drone Diplomacy

Donald Trump posted a video of the U.S. military hitting an alleged drug-running peñero in the Caribbean. The White House didn’t disclose any details about the strike’s location or the presumed dead. However…

Some key findings on the sunken drug boat according to El Pitazo’s sources:

  • The alleged drug run originated in San Juan de Unare, a coast town in Sucre, Venezuela and it was headed to Trinidad and Tobago.
  • It sailed on Sunday night and it was hit on Monday morning.
  • 11 people were onboard, 8 of them from Unare.
  • It was one of three boats that were making the run that morning.

Investigative journalist Ronna Rísquez added some context:

  • Those Sucre coastal towns are part of proven routes to smuggle drugs and migrants toward Trinidad and Tobago.
  • They are heavily controlled by groups linked to the Tren del Llano and Tren de Aragua mega gangs.
