How to Help the Hermana República

Colombia was struck by a deadly 7.4 magnitude earthquake weeks after our own tragedy. Here’s how to support response efforts over there during these crucial first hours.

Cash works best in Colombia (and Venezuela). Below are some organizations you can help with monetary donations:

Fundación PLAN is a Colombian nonprofit focused on protecting the rights and improving the well-being of vulnerable children and families. It has a permanent presence in Quibdó, Chocó, and accepts monetary donations.

Banco de Alimentos de Bogotá works to address food insecurity by collecting and distributing food to vulnerable communities and organizations. You can send them money following this link.

World Central Kitchen works with local restaurants, chefs and community organizations to provide fresh meals to people affected by emergencies. They have been helping in La Guaira, and have an established network of local partners in Colombia.

Cruz Roja Colombiana has a nationwide humanitarian network and works in areas including emergency response, health, disaster-risk management and support for vulnerable communities. Here’s the link to monetary donations.

Global Empowerment Mission is a Miami-based disaster-relief organization that coordinates emergency supplies and volunteers. This link explains how people in the Miami area can donate and sign up for volunteer shifts at its donation centers.
