Coming soon next to a Vice-Minister near you…

The government has decided to create a brand new security agency, which will be specially dedicated to protect… only high-ranking members of the Venezuelan State.

The Special Protection and Security Unit of State Personalities (yes, that’s the name they went with) will be at first part of the Presidential Honor Guard (the army group attached to the Presidency). There’s no details over whether this unit will eventually replace the current Presidential Security Service (known here as Casa Militar).

The unit will start with 30 agents, but who knows if that will change in the future. After all, there’s a lot of Ministers and Vice-Ministers to protect in the Executive Branch alone.

It’s not like there weren’t any protection agents before: the so-called escoltas have become common presence. But they’re also turned into frequent targets of criminals in recent years, in many cases just to take their guns away.

Curiosly, this news comes after two bodyguards of Interior Minister Miguel Rodríguez Torres have been detained and will be charged for the February 12th murders of Bassil Da Costa and Juan Montoya in downtown Caracas.

Funny that for an anti-U.S. government, they like to imitate them as much as possible. And it isn’t the first time.

      • I don’t buy anything anymore because most shelves are bare.

I don’t buy online because my credit card has already reached its dollar limit.

I checked with the BCV and they told me the scarcity figures were legit, likewise inflation.

How can anyone street vendors sell for 100-150% more all the goods I can’t find in stores, I don’t know.

  1. Funny that they like to copy the things the US does. Their electoral victories would be more crushing using the Electoral Vote system of the US.

  2. Now that the regime has arrested a couple of lower-downs, they will just disappear into complete obscurity and everyone will forget about it.

  3. I don’t remember exactly, but hadn’t Maduro said that the person that killed the two kids was the same that killed the tupamaro?

  4. in the 4th, the escolta presidencial was handled by Disip. Usually one man accompanied the president and his weapon of choice became the Glock-19. He was a .45 man before probably the only guy that carried a .45. This is the guy(s) that wear suits and travel with the president. Casa Militar watched over local functions never in civilian attire. First order of business with HCF was revamping presidential security with Cuba assist. They border on the ridiculous but it’s effective shutting outsiders out.

  5. For some reason this reminds of Allende’s GAP (Grupo de Amigos Personales),these young guys were his praetorian guard, but it also reflected the distrust Allende had of the security agents that normally would have been responsible.
